This small, fuel-efficient car was a major success, selling over 160,000 units. In 1959, BMW launched the 600, its first midsize car. The company's first sports car, the BMW 2000 CS, was introduced in 1965. BMW expanded its product line in the 1970s with the introduction of the BMW 5 Series, the BMW 7 Series, and the BMW 3 Series. The company's first luxury sedan, the BMW 7 Series, was introduced in 1977. The company's first SUV, the BMW X5, was introduced in 1999. In 2001, BMW acquired the British automaker Land Rover, which became the basis for the BMW Land Rover brand. The company also acquired the British luxury automaker Rolls-Royce in 2003. BMW sells its vehicles through a network of independent dealers in over 140 countries. The company's largest markets are China, the United States, Germany, and the United Kingdom. In 2015, BMW sold 2,279,503 vehicles worldwide.
